Under the Skin of PAS55: What It Really Takes to Achieve and Sustain Good Asset Management Practices
John Woodhouse, CEO & Managing Director, The Woodhouse Partnership Ltd. and
Chair of Faculty, IAM
Karsten Hauschild, Solution Manager, SAP Labs, LLC
Kim McArthur, Manager-Asset Stewardship, Hydro One Networks Inc.
This workshop provides deep insight into the practical implications, business benefits and implementation challenges associated with introducing and sustaining an integrated, whole lifecycle, cost/risk optimized approach to asset management. The PAS55 Standard is a pragmatic and popular checklist of good practices, having been developed by over 50 asset-intensive organizations from 15 industry sectors in 10 countries. It reveals, for example, how good asset management is much more than just good asset care (maintenance) or the correct usage of EAM software systems.
At the heart of good asset management — good decision-making
The workshop summarizes the latest thinking and methods for determining and proving what is really worth spending, and when, in asset investments or replacements, maintenance, spares and other value optimization decisions. It shows how to put a price on the ‘intangibles’, how to break down the vested interest conflicts between departments, and how to apply risk-based decision methods even when available data is limited or uncertain – all in the delivery of greater, transparent and sustainable ‘bang for your buck’.
How can we stop the cycle of 'temporary enthusiasms'?
Delegates will also be shown methods of assessing organization maturity in asset management, and how to develop a robust, sustainable roadmap that sorts out competing priorities, then coordinates and prioritizes realistic improvement activities. John Woodhouse will share from his extensive world-wide experience of implementing PAS55 in different industries and cultures, including the essential ‘enablers’ that convert ‘temporary enthusiasms’ into sustained delivery of real, bottom-line value and performance improvement.
First hand experience of delivering real results
The workshop is highly interactive, allowing delegates to compare experiences and discuss common issues. It also includes case histories of organizations at different stages in the maturity scale — covering ‘where to start?’, ‘how to progress and stabilize?’, and ‘where and how to stretch the limits?’ Kim McArthur of Hydro One in Toronto, for example, will share his experiences of embarking on this journey, and the business benefits that are already emerging.

Experience the Best Maintenance Strategy Game!
Guy Delahay, Managing Partner, Mainnovation
After two days of listening to the latest developments in maintenance and SAP EAM, it is time to get into action mode again! The Value Driven Maintenance® (VDM) Strategy Game is the most exciting and meaningful workshop you have ever joined! Attendees will be split into teams that will compete to define the best maintenance strategy, delivering the highest cash flows (value) to the company. We will play four rounds. All teams start with the same case study and benchmark information, but every decision the team makes will be entered in the game simulation tool and will lead to new KPI scores and changed positions in the yearly benchmark.
Facilitators will present results per round and will explain why some decisions have more impact than others. You will experience that, depending on your market situation, some best practices have much better results than others. Join us to gain a full understanding of the power of clear KPI’s and benchmarks and how they can be used to achieve better maintenance decisions. You will also learn how the data in your SAP EAM system can be transformed into powerful Maintenance Intelligence by using the VDM® Control Panel. This will provide you with a solid foundation to enhance better decision making.

Using Core SAP ERP to Balance Demand and Supply: You Have the Tools, it’s Time to Use Them!
Joseph Grobler, Global Operations Director, Reveal USA
John Bassi, Senior Process Integrator, Reveal USA
After implementing and bedding down the transactional functionality within SAP, many organizations start looking further afield for additional technology solutions, while users create spreadsheet systems outside of SAP to help with the tactical decision making in the business.
This workshop will reveal the tools and techniques within core SAP that increase end-to-end visibility across the supply chain while strengthening the functional integration. Users will be introduced to standard management tools, monitors, and reports that already exist within core SAP. This functionality is already paid for and can be activated with limited to no configuration. Learn how performance monitors and exception message management have a positive impact on optimization and efficiency targets. This workshop will make it clear that there is more to the solution than the technology. Successful maintenance functions understand this and have benefitted tremendously by this approach.
• What are the main new developments for EAM?
• What is SAP doing about usability?
• Live demonstrations!
